Course content:
LEVEL I
This course is a basic introduction to Bharata Natyam. Each class begins with stretching exercises.

Adavus:
Basic exercises in Bharata Natyam. The adavus develop coordination of the whole body and a sense of rhythm. 

Hasthas:
Hand positions and their meaning.

Introduction to the Trinity:
Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu and how to represent them in Bharata Natyam.

Choreography:
A progression of adavus movements. A slokam or short prayer with music dedicated to a divinity. Beginning of a short choreography entitled Pushpanjali.


LEVEL II

In this course, students will learn a traditional Bharata Natyam repertoire. It is open only to students who have mastered the basic elements taught at level I. The course runs for 36 weeks from September to June.

PRACTICE

In order to learn the Bharata Natyam movements in greater depth, it is suggested that students join the practice class guided by the teacher.

YEARLY DANCE SHOW
The yearly dance show is in June. Participation is conditional on the student being registered in a Level I, Level II or Level III course and attending practices on a regular basis.
